Martinsville High School Bands

Dear Parents and Community members,

 

 

The band is off to a great start this fall and in spite of Saturday games and challenges from the weather, the band is excited about the possibilities for the 2008-09 school year.  One of the major projects for the year will be raising money for the purchase of new band uniforms.  Our school system has generously allocated $33,000 towards the goal; however, the total cost of 150 uniforms will likely be over $65,000.  The band boosters have approximately $36,000 in the bank, but must maintain funds to continue to assist and promote the band’s yearly activities.  I am therefore asking for your help in replacing these uniforms, some of which were worn when I attended MHS in the mid to late 80s.

On September 20, Applebee's and the MHS Band Boosters will host a Breakfast to help with the uniform project.   Tickets are $5 and include pancakes, sausage and drink.  The band receives $3 of every ticket that is presented at the door and gets $5 when tickets are purchased but not used.  Please return the attached form with cash or check to the MHS Band Boosters requesting your tickets.

            If you feel particularly strong about the role that music education and the arts plays in our community and school, consider making a donation to the Boosters.  Many other band programs require each student to pay a band fee ranging from $200 to $700 in order to participate.   A band our size could generate $30,000 yearly if we instituted this policy, however we would likely keep many from participating at all.  Although, a modest student fee may be introduced in years to come, I humbly ask that you consider making a contribution to our band program.  The boosters will return a receipt to you for your records.
